The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will charge a fuel surcharge on electricity bills for June. Consumers with monthly billing will pay 5 paise per unit, while those with bi-monthly billing will be charged 7 paise per unit.

This surcharge is intended to recover an additional ₹12.39 crore spent by KSEB on power purchases in April.

Exemptions

Domestic consumers with a connected load of up to 1000 watts and monthly consumption of 40 units or less will be exempt from the surcharge. Customers using the green tariff are also not required to pay this charge.

Currently, the fuel surcharge stands at 8 paise per unit on both monthly and bi-monthly bills. The KSEB has now reduced it by 3 paise for monthly billing and 1 paise for bi-monthly billing in June. A similar reduction was made earlier in April for bi-monthly bills.
