Kottayam: Writer K R Meera's controversial remarks at the Literary Festival held in Kozhikode have led to a police complaint filed by Rahul Easwar. The complaint was submitted at the Ernakulam Central Police Station.

The complaint has been lodged under Sections 352, 353, 196 of the BNS, and Section 67 of the IT Act. Rahul Easwar stated that Meera’s statement justifies murder.

He also announced at a press conference in Kottayam that the State Men’s Commission Bill would be presented in the Legislative Assembly this week. The Bill will be introduced as a Private Bill by MLA Eldhose Kunnappilly. He further claimed that the Bill is expected to receive approval from the Speaker and the Law Department soon.

The controversy arose from K R Meera’s comments regarding the Sharon murder case. Her response appeared to justify the act of murder.

She said, "I once told my daughter something: at the very least, you should have loved three people before considering marriage. Her response was, ‘Three? Didn’t that already happen by eighth grade?’ That gave me a sense of relief. The point is, how can one know the world by loving and knowing only one person? No one from that time ever told us this. You need to know and understand the world. If you are left alone, you will have to endure the mental suffocation of floating in the middle of a vast ocean—that is the kind of society we live in.

What I want to tell the children of this generation is that under no circumstances should you uphold absolute fidelity. There is no need to remain unwaveringly faithful at any cost. Sometimes, if you have to administer a dose of herbal decoction... What I mean is, if a woman is not given the freedom to leave a relationship, she may end up as a criminal. Preventing her from reaching that point is the ultimate duty and responsibility of a perfect lover. When that duty is not fulfilled, problems arise. How many men kill their wives just because they have another relationship? Why does a woman seek another relationship? It happens when she is denied freedom within her marriage. Just as revolutions occur within a country, they can also happen within a marriage."
