KPMA to launch mobile app to ensure quality of 'Pappadam'

The Kerala Pappadam Manufacturers Association (KPMA) has planned to introduce an app called 'Mudra' to ensure the quality of pappadams. This app is said to launch before Vishu.
With an increase in the price of black gram (urad dal), which is a key ingredient in making pappadam, manufacturers started using refined wheat flour. KPMA aims to restrict the inflow of spurious pappadam into the market and to ensure that customers get good quality products.
There are 1500 Pappadam manufacturing units in the state. As part of this project, 300 units have signed a contract with the KPMA district committee. The district committee will ensure cleanliness and check the documents and quality related to the use/purchase of ingredients, preservatives, etc. This will be done every two months.
Following the inspection, a register number and the logo of KPMA will be added to the packaging. The units that have completed the inspection process have started selling pappadams with the logo and registration number in their packets.
The users can ensure the quality of the product by scanning the registration number using the Mudra app.
