Kozhikode Parallel telephone exchange: Prime accused nabbed from Wayanad

Kozhikode: The prime accused in the Kozhikode Parallel telephone exchange case was nabbed by the police from Wayanad on Friday night. The accused is identified as PP Shabeeer, who was absconding for almost a year. According to police, he is suspected to be one of the two key accused in the case. 

Meanwhile, the police intensified the search for the remaining three accused in the case. Earlier, police issued a look-out notice and started a search for those connected to the case.

Following this, a team led by SI Pavithran arrested Shabeer on Friday night while travelling in a car to a resort at Pozhuthana in Wayanad. He booked the resort under a fake name Shameer. 

On July 1, 2021, Juraise from Kozhikode was arrested for running a parallel exchange. Soon, the team traced the role of Ibrahim Pullattil, and the investigation further identified the role of Kozhikode residents Niyas and Shabeer in the case. 

The probe team also found that Rs 46 crore was transferred to the account of the accused from outside. Shabeer's brother Moideen Koya and his son is also booked in the case.

The probe team found that parallel exchange was used to facilitate illegal activities like terrorism. Further, phone calls were found to have been made to Pakistan from Kozhikode. The exchange was also used by gold smuggling gangs to kidnap people.
