Kozhikode custodial death:IG report cites lapses by police in providing medical care

Kozhikode: A preliminary report into the alleged custodial death of a man in Vadakara acknowledged the mistake made by the cops of the Vadakara Police Station. The report compiled by the north zone IG pointed out that the police failed to provide emergency medical aid to the deceased. Meanwhile, the probe into the case has been handed over to the Crime Branch.

Sajeeven, a native of Vadakara, was taken into custody in connection to a brawl over a road accident on Thursday night. However, he later collapsed inside the police station after an alleged beating from the cops. The report pointed out that Cops failed to act in time despite Sajeevan complained of chest pain. Further, the police dissuaded those who tried to help him. 

On Friday, three policemen were suspended  over the incident. The report will be submitted to the state government along with post-mortem report and the details of actions taken against the cops. It is learnt that the doctors have confirmed that Sajeevan died of heart attack.
