Kozhikode Corporation sitting on bounce cheque cases despite audit findings

Kozhikode: Kozhikode Corporation is not seen proactive in taking remedial measures despite the audit finding that there are bounce cheque cases worth Rs 1.6 lakh.
The inaction has gained attention as Corporation has been accusing Punjab National Bank(PNB) of malpractices worth more than Rs 15 crore with its accounts. This in turn will give more ammunition to UDF faction which allege that the administration too is involved in PNB bank malpractices.
According to the audit report, the Corporation’s finance department failed to ensure whether the money from the cheque received are being credited in its accounts or whether it got cleared in the bank.
The corporation rule book clearly mandates action should be taken against such issues. But Corporation is not seen adhering to it. Not just that. The audit report has listed many other lapses of Corporation’s finance department.
