Kottayam, Kerala: A 23-year-old man was murdered Monday morning allegedly following a dispute over a financial transaction linked to a drug deal.

The victim was identified as Adarsh, a resident of Puthuppally. In connection with the incident, former Congress councillor of Kottayam Municipality, VK Anilkumar, and his son Abhijith, have been taken into custody.

The murder happened at around 2 AM. According to police sources, the financial dispute was related to MDMA. While Abhijith had purchased drugs from Adarsh, he reportedly refused to pay the amount owed.

Following the disagreement, Adarsh went to Anilkumar’s residence in Maanikkunnu, where an altercation ensued. Police stated that Anilkumar and his son then attacked Adarsh, with Abhijith allegedly committing the murder.

Both accused were apprehended by Kottayam West Police as they attempted to flee. Footage obtained by Mathrubhumi News shows Anilkumar and Abhijith escaping the scene after the killing.

Police said the accused is currently being questioned. Abhijith is a history-sheeter with several drug-related cases registered against him.

Adarsh’s body has been sent to Kottayam Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination, officials said.
