Kothamangalam: The First Class Judicial Magistrate Court here on Tuesday extended the validity of interim bail granted to Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan, Ernakulam DCC president Mohammed Shiyas, and 14 others, who were arrested in connection with a protest held against the death of a woman killed by jumbo attack.

The development came after the court decided to have the hearing in the case on Wednesday.

The accused were arrested by the Kothamangalam police for protesting with the dead body of Indira, who was trampled to death by wild elephants. The prosecution appealed for two-day custody of the accused.

Earlier today, Kuzhalnadan and Shiyas were produced before the court. They were granted bail. The court scheduled a hearing in the case for the afternoon as the police did not submit the report in the morning. In the afternoon, police reportedly submitted the report and other evidence to support their plea for custody. Following this only, the court decided to have the hearing in the case on Wednesday.
