Kochi: Four youngsters arrested by excise officials while trying to sell MDMA

Kochi: The excise special squad recovered 350 grams of MDMA from a gang during an inspection near the Kaloor stadium. Four youngsters, including a woman, have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The arrested were identified as Susimol (24), Elroy (21), Ajmal (25), and Ameer (22). While Susimol hailed from Kottayam, the rest of them were Ernakulam natives.
A gram of MDMA costs Rs 3,000 or more. The accused are being questioned at the excise office in Kacheripady. They were reportedly caught from a car while awaiting drug agents.
MDMA was stuffed in several bags placed inside the car. Drugs were seized from the pockets of Ameer’s clothes as well.
The modus operandi of the cartel was revealed in the interrogation. At first, a group of people from Himachal Pradesh will bring drugs to an area close to the Nedumbassery airport. From there, the accused group will pick up the contraband and will transport it in a car to regions like Kaloor and Palrivattom. The substances will then be handed over to local drug agents in those places. The network seems to have been functioning since long, until they were eventually busted by the excise officials.
