Kochi: Customs officials seized 6.5 kg of hybrid cannabis worth ₹6.5 crore at Nedumbassery airport. The substance, allegedly smuggled from Bangkok to Kochi, was found in the possession of Abdul Samad, a Wayanad native, who has been arrested. Officials described it as one of the biggest drug seizures reported at Kochi International Airport in recent times.

The operation was carried out following confidential information received by the Deputy Commissioner of Kochi Customs Intelligence. Abdul Samad had arrived from Bangkok when customs officials intercepted him. The hybrid cannabis was discovered during a thorough inspection of his baggage.

Officials are now investigating whether the accused had engaged in similar smuggling attempts earlier. They are also probing details regarding the intended recipients, the marketing network, and the source of the drugs. Abdul Samad will be produced before the Angamaly Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
