New Delhi: The Kerala government has sought legal advice from senior lawyer and constitutional expert Fali S Nariman in the KIIFB controversy.

The case related to Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) is currently under the consideration of the High Court.

It is learnt that the government sought legal advice in the matter regarding raising foreign funds for a financial institution which is created independently. The legal advice is related to the writ petition which was filed in the High Court requesting to declare KIIFB and masala bonds as anti-constitutional.

The advocate general’s office sought the legal advice as requested by the finance department. The documents related to the case were handed over to the office of Nariman the other day.

It is learnt that the legal advice was sought in connection with some matters on the basis of Article 293 (1) of the Constitution. This article regulates the authority of the states to receive foreign funds.

Normally, Fali S Nariman does not appear in the High Courts outside Delhi. The Kerala government is also examining the possibilities to make him appear for the case through video conferencing, sources from the government told Mathrubhumi News.
