Kerala’s youngest organ donor: 10-month-old baby to give new lease of life to five

Thiruvananthapuram: In a deeply moving gesture, a 10-month-old baby girl from Mallappally in Pathanamthitta district has become Kerala’s youngest organ donor after being declared brain dead following a road accident.
The child, identified as Aalin Sherin Abraham, was declared brain dead after doctors confirmed the severity of her injuries. In an extraordinary act of generosity amid overwhelming grief, her parents consented to donate her organs.
According to official confirmation from Kerala Health Minister Veena George, both kidneys will be transplanted to a 10-year-old child currently receiving treatment at the SAT Hospital attached to the Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. The liver will be donated to a seven-month-old baby undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital. A heart valve will be given to a child receiving treatment at Aster Medcity, and corneas will be donated to Amrita Hospital.
It is learnt that Aalin’s kidneys, liver and heart valve will be transported from Amrita Hospital to Thiruvananthapuram by ambulance at around 6.30 pm.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the family for their selfless decision and conveyed her condolences, noting that their act would give a new lease of life to another child.
Health authorities said the gesture stands as a powerful reminder of the importance of organ donation and the lives it can transform, even in the face of unimaginable loss.
