Alappuzha: Kudumbashree members are set to enter the elderly care sector in Denmark. This opportunity comes through K-4 Care, a project led by Kudumbashree in the field of geriatric and patient care.

In the first phase, Denmark has requested 1,000 members. After receiving specialised training in elderly care and social services, they will be appointed as Social Healthcare Helpers.

Denmark is currently facing a shortage of workers in the health and care sector. As a result, the country is considering trained Indian health workers, who are known for their family-oriented culture and caregiving experience.

A high-level delegation from Denmark arrived in India to study the possibility of offering employment to these workers. During their visit, they learned about Kerala’s Kudumbashree-led K-4 Care project and subsequently held discussions with Minister M B Rajesh. Plans are also in place to select nurses with experience in elderly care.

At present, 1,124 members are part of the K-4 Care programme. Kudumbashree provides a one-month residential training programme in collaboration with the National Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust and Aspirant Learning Academy. Applicants must be between 25 and 55 years of age, with Plus Two as the minimum educational qualification.
