Council meeting at Thrikkakara Municipality ends up in scuffle, several members hurt

Kochi: A violent clash broke out between ruling and opposition party members of the Thrikkara Municipality concerning the money spent for repairing a lock of the chairperson’s room here on Tuesday. During the council meeting, the chairperson demanded that the municipality should bear the expense of repairing the lock. When the opposition opposed this demand, a scuffle ensued between the two groups leading to several council members getting injured.

The lock was destroyed during a protest against the municipality chairperson for allegedly gifting Rs 10,000 along with Onakodi.

Following these events, chairperson Ajitha Thankappan claimed that Rs 8,000 was spent on repairing the lock. She also demanded to include the expense on Municipality's expenditure.

Opposing her demand, the opposition argued that congress members destroyed the lock and the municipality is not responsible to bear the expense. Meantime, Ajitha Thankapan accused the opposition members of physically assaulting her.
