From Pala to Dublin: Kerala woman to contest in Irish elections as ruling party candidate

Vyttila (Ernakulam): Manju Devi, native of Pala, Kottayam, is set to contest in the upcoming Irish parliamentary elections, scheduled for November 29. Manju, a nurse at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin, is standing as a candidate for Ireland's ruling Fianna Fáil Party in the Dublin Fingal East constituency. She works closely with Minister Darragh O'Brien.

A journey of service

Manju Devi is the daughter of Havildar Major K.M.B. Achari, a former army officer. After gaining experience at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh for four years, she moved to Ireland in 2005 to work as a nurse at the Mater Hospital in Dublin.

Manju is married to Shyam Mohan, a key figure in Ireland’s cricketing community, being one of the founders of the Finglas Cricket Club in North Dublin. Shyam, originally from Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram, and Manju have two daughters.
