Thiruvananthapuram: The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in two districts of Kerala tomorrow and issued a yellow alert for Pathanamthitta and Idukki. According to the department, isolated heavy rain is likely, with “heavy rainfall” defined as 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain within 24 hours.

The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean near the equatorial region, has intensified into a very deep depression. It is expected to move west-northwestwards across the southwest Bay of Bengal over the next 36 hours and is likely to make landfall between Hambantota and Kalmunai along the Sri Lankan coast by tonight.

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation has formed over the southeast Arabian Sea near South Kerala. As a result, Kerala is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall from January 8 to 12, and isolated heavy rainfall is also expected on January 10.
