Kerala braces for scorching weather; 12 districts face yellow alert
Parts of Kerala are set to see a sharp rise in temperatures in the next few hours, with officials warning of increasingly uncomfortable conditions across the state.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) issued a weather alert on March 26 (Thursday), signalling higher-than-normal temperatures in several districts.
Maximum temperatures to climb
The KSDMA alert forecasts temperatures for March 26–27 (Thursday, Friday) as follows:
- 38˚C at isolated locations: Kollam, Kottayam, Palakkad
- 37˚C: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kannur
- 36˚C: Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram, Kasargod
These readings are 2–3˚C above normal for this time of year. A "Yellow alert" has been issued for these districts. Meanwhile, hilly areas like Wayanad and Idukki are expected to remain cooler at 34˚C, with no warnings currently in place.
Hot and humid conditions to persist
Authorities warned that hot and humid weather is likely across the warned districts. Additionally, there is a possibility of heatwave conditions in certain areas.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit sun exposure, and take necessary precautions outdoors.
The KSDMA will continue to monitor the situation and may issue further updates if temperatures rise beyond current forecasts.
