Kerala weather alert: Heavy rain expected, IMD lists at-risk districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for eight districts in Kerala: Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod for June 24 (Tuesday). The forecast indicates that rainfall intensity is expected to increase over the coming days, with more districts likely to be affected.

District-wise yellow alert for the coming days:

June 25: Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

June 26: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

June 27: Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

June 28: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

The IMD has warned of isolated heavy rainfall in the alerted districts.

Residents, particularly those living in hilly regions and low-lying flood-prone areas, are urged to remain vigilant.

Local authorities have been advised to stay prepared for potential emergencies such as flash floods or landslides, which may result from the predicted rainfall.
