Kerala to launch Nativity Card with chip and hologram: Who is eligible and key uses

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has approved the issuance of Nativity Cards based on the existing nativity certificate model. The card will be available to those who have roots in Kerala, even if they were born outside the state. Plans are also underway to incorporate chip and holograms in the card in future.
The card will have legal validity with the Land Revenue Commissioner tasked to draft guidelines and ensure legislative backing. Current eligibility rules for nativity certificates will also apply to the Nativity Card. Individuals are eligible if both parents were born and raised in Kerala, or if one parent was born and raised in Kerala.
In addition, if one parent was born in Kerala and the other in another Indian state, the child is eligible for the card provided the family resides permanently in Kerala after marriage.
The Nativity Card can be used in place of the nativity certificate, serving as an official document for state government services, other social requirements and as a recognised identity proof.
