Kozhikode: Minister of Public Works Department (PWD) PA Muhammad Riyas informed that the department will constitute a committee of high-level officials for road maintenance under running contract scheme so that there is a permanent mechanism.

As of now, a special team of experts headed by departmental secretaries review the situation in districts based on PWD minister’s direction. Further action will be taken based on the analysis on the report submitted by these groups.

The new permanent mechanism is pushed as a solution to resolve issues in a time-bound manner. This mechanism in future will facilitate the officials to have field visit and take stock of the situation, the minister said.

Meanwhile, the district level reviews by special teams are progressing. Palakkad, Kottayam and Wayanad are the only districts where the process has not been initiated yet. The special team includes IAS officers, chief engineers, superintending engineers and executive engineers.
