Thrissur, Kerala: A pet Siberian Husky that reportedly escaped from its enclosure went on a rampage in a village here, attacking a pet dog, a cow and more than 10 stray dogs, triggering panic among residents.

The incident occurred at the Volga Centre in Karayamuttam, on the beach road in Muriyamthodu, Valapad panchayat.

The Husky first attacked a Dachshund belonging to a man named Santhosh. The dog had been tied up behind the house when it was bitten.

The Husky then entered a nearby property and attempted to attack a cow. After local residents chased it away, the dog reportedly attacked a milch cow tethered at another house. The cow sustained bite injuries to its face and eye.

The dog later attacked more than 10 stray dogs in the area, according to local residents.

Residents alleged that the Husky had been behaving unusually for the past two days and had earlier bitten another dog in its owner’s house. They have raised suspicions over how the dog got out, with some alleging that the owner may have deliberately let it loose after it began showing symptoms suspected to be consistent with rabies. However, there is no official confirmation that the dog had rabies or that it was intentionally released.

Santhosh has filed a complaint with the Valapad panchayat, alleging that the Husky belongs to his neighbour, Muraleedharan, and seeking compensation for the injuries caused to his pet dog.
