Kerala settles over 12,000 disputes through mediation in Supreme Court campaign
New Delhi: Kerala State Mediation and Conciliation Centre has emerged as one of the top-performing states in the Supreme Court-backed "Mediation for the Nation 2.0" campaign, settling 12,389 disputes through mediation during the nationwide initiative held between January 2 and June 15, 2026. The campaign, spearheaded by the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee of the Supreme Court of India, facilitated the amicable resolution of over one lakh cases across the country.
The state mediated 27,493 cases, achieving settlements in 12,389, translating to a 44 per cent success rate. The resolved matters spanned 13 categories, including matrimonial disputes, motor accident claims, cheque bounce cases, criminal compoundable offences, land acquisition, partition suits, eviction matters, commercial disputes, labour cases, consumer disputes and other civil cases. The Centre said the campaign underscored the growing acceptance of mediation as an effective alternative dispute resolution mechanism, helping bring closure to long-pending and complex litigation.
The success, it said, was driven by the coordinated efforts of the High Court Mediation Centre, district and sub-mediation centres, referral judges, mediators, lawyers and supporting staff, whose collective participation ensured Kerala's strong performance in the national campaign. Meanwhile, the Kerala State Mediation and Conciliation Centre has developed a Mediation Management System for the High Court to digitise the mediation process from court referral to submission of the final report. The platform is designed to eliminate manual paperwork, improve transparency, enable secure real-time access to case files and streamline mediator allocation and report submission. A similar digital module is also being developed for the district judiciary. Justice Anil K. Narendran, President, Board of Governors of the Kerala State Mediation and Conciliation Centre, has been at the helm of the state's mediation initiatives.
