CPM state committee member and Former Kerala State Youth Commission Chairperson Chintha Jerome on Wednesday dismissed the “beer bottle” allegations against her. The reaction came after social media memes claimed she was consuming beer at the party's Kollam district conference.

The controversy arose when visuals emerged of Chintha drinking from a reusable bottle at the conference, which some alleged resembled a beer bottle.

In a Facebook post, Chintha stated that the mental state of those perceiving karingali (Senegalia catechu) water bottles as beer "must be examined." She wrote, “The CPM Kollam district conference has been organised in an exemplary manner. To divert attention from this, some have deliberately resorted to meaningless ridicule and criticism.”

She further emphasised the importance of party conferences, stating, “For the party, each conference serves as a platform to determine the future course of political understanding and forms of struggle. Marxism is the practical application of ideological science. The conferences are conceptualised in alignment with green protocols, presenting model lessons in green politics.”

Chintha elaborated on the rationale behind using glass bottles, explaining, “As part of this, the use of plastic bottled water was discontinued, and karingali drinking water was distributed in reusable bottles at the conference venue. However, images of these bottles are being circulated on social media by so-called 'well-wishers' of the Left as beer bottles, aiming to ridicule. This baseless mockery exemplifies how misinformation spreads in a post-truth political landscape.”
