Rain holiday on August 6 for educational institutions in select taluks of 4 Kerala districts

Pathanamthitta (Kerala): Partial holiday has been declared across Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Wayanad districts for Thursday, August 6, 2026. The respective District Collectors issued the orders taking into account heavy rainfall, severe weather warnings, waterlogging and the functioning of relief camps in educational buildings.
Pathanamthitta
A holiday has been declared for all educational institutions in Thiruvalla Taluk, ranging from Anganwadis to professional colleges. In the other taluks of the district, the holiday applies strictly to schools that are functioning as relief camps.
Alappuzha
Due to continuous heavy rainfall, waterlogging, persistent weather warnings and the operation of relief camps in schools, a holiday has been declared for all educational institutions, including Anganwadis, tuition centres and professional colleges, in Kuttanad, Chengannur and Karthikappally taluks in the district. In addition, a holiday has been declared for all educational institutions functioning as relief camps across the entire district.
The Deputy Director of the Alappuzha Education Department has been authorised to decide on granting holidays to additional educational institutions based on local assessments of waterlogging and severe weather conditions. However, pre-scheduled examinations will proceed as per schedule.
Kottayam
All educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Kottayam Taluk will remain closed on Thursday. In the remaining taluks of the district, the holiday applies strictly to educational institutions operating as relief camps. Pre-scheduled examinations will be conducted as planned.
Wayanad
In Wayanad district, a holiday has been declared on August 6, 2026 for all educational institutions that are currently functioning as relief camps.
Parents and students are advised to confirm with their respective school authorities regarding relief-camp status.
