Kerala weather update: Rain is expected in parts of Kerala on Thursday, with the latest forecast pointing to light showers in isolated areas of seven districts over the next three hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued yellow alerts for several districts over the next few days, signalling the possibility of isolated heavy rain.

The districts that could receive light rain in the next three hours are Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram.

Parts of Kerala woke up to cooler weather on Thursday morning following rain in some areas of the state.

Kerala rain forecast: Yellow alerts issued in several districts

The latest five-day rainfall forecast shows that the yellow alert will move across different parts of Kerala between September 17 and September 20.

September 17: Pathanamthitta, Idukki

September 18: Idukki

September 19: Malappuram, Kozhikode

September 20: Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam

The yellow alert indicates the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall in the listed districts.

The IMD classifies heavy rainfall as 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain within 24 hours.

Are schools closed in Kerala today?

No district collectors have announced school holidays. The forecast currently points to isolated rainfall, with yellow alerts issued for specific districts and dates rather than a state-wide closure.

Parents and students should continue to follow announcements from their respective district administrations and schools in case local conditions lead to any fresh decision.

Which Kerala districts are likely to get rain today?

For the immediate three-hour period, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram have been identified as districts where isolated light rain is possible.

The broader five-day forecast shows a different set of districts under yellow alert on specific dates, with Idukki appearing in the alert list on September 17, 18 and 20.

The rainfall outlook therefore remains focused on isolated showers and pockets of heavy rain, rather than a uniform heavy-rain spell across the entire state.
