Got a ‘storage full’ email for your Gmail account? Kerala Police warns of phishing scam

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Police has issued a warning about a new phishing scam targeting Gmail users. Fraudsters are sending deceptive emails claiming that the recipient’s Gmail account will be deactivated due to insufficient storage space. The email includes a link, urging users to click and restore their account.

Risk of malware and data theft
Authorities have cautioned that clicking the link redirects users to a fraudulent website. This can result in malware or viruses being installed on the victim’s device. In addition, users who enter their bank details risk having their sensitive financial information stolen.

Deceptive emails pose security threat
Since the emails appear to be from Google, many users may be misled into trusting them. Kerala Police has advised Gmail users to verify their storage details directly through their Google account settings and to avoid clicking on links received via email.
