Pathanamthitta: A police inspector in Kerala has been suspended following a departmental inquiry into a woman's allegation that he impregnated her after promising to marry her, officials said on Sunday.

T K Vinod Krishna was suspended based on a report submitted by the Pathanamthitta District Police Chief to the Inspector General of Police, who issued the suspension order.

Krishna was serving as an inspector at the District Crime Records Bureau in Pathanamthitta when the complaint came to light.

The 28-year-old woman recently approached the district police chief, alleging that Krishna had promised to marry her before she became pregnant.

Krishna had earlier served as the Station House Officer (SHO) at Elavumthitta police station, where he became acquainted with the woman. He was later transferred to Peroorkada police station in Thiruvananthapuram district in connection with arrangements for the Assembly elections.

Officials said the woman allegedly accompanied Krishna and stayed with him in Thiruvananthapuram.

The departmental inquiry also found that Krishna had taken the woman with him when he travelled to Hyderabad as part of a case investigation.

According to the allegations, Krishna had promised to marry the woman after separating from his first wife but later backed out of the commitment.

The woman has declined to file a formal police complaint, officials said. Police have sought legal opinion on whether they can register a case on their own, they added.
