Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has vehemently opposed ‘Bharat Registration’. Through ‘Bharat Registration’, it will be possible to use private vehicles across the country, with the help of only a single registration. However, Kerala government states that the state will potentially incur yearly loss of Rs 300 crores with the initiation of the idea.

In its response to the union ministry, the state has clearly mentioned that the ultimate decision regarding road taxes rests with the state government, Kerala also dismissed centre’s proposal to lower the overall tax rates.

This is looked upon as part of Kerala’s staunch decision to prevent the centre from allegedly intervening in the internal matters.

BH Registration

Through BH registration, the buyer will have to pay only a tax equivalent to 12 percent of the total vehicle price (without GST) in instalments over a period of two years. However, in Kerala, tax amounting to up to 21 percent of the vehicle price (including GST) is levied on the buyer.

In the case of BH registration, the vehicle owner will only have to pay taxes for two years in the state where he is using the vehicle. If a vehicle from a different state is being used for more than six months, then the user shall transfer the registration to the new state by paying taxes.
