Kozhikode: Even as construction progresses on other stretches, parts of Kerala’s newly built national highway are already witnessing serious traffic violations, triggering widespread concern across social media platforms.

Images and videos showing vehicles entering the highway from the wrong side and driving against the flow of traffic are doing the rounds on social media. The most widely criticised incident involved a private bus caught on camera travelling in the opposite direction on the six-lane highway.

The Motor Vehicles Department has taken swift action against the violator vehicle, a limited-stop private bus named Gangster (registration number KL 08 BN 3497), which operates on the Kozhikode–Thrissur route. The bus was seen entering the highway in a rash and negligent manner at Pookiparambu—reportedly after encountering a traffic jam—and proceeded to drive against oncoming high-speed traffic, a blatant violation of road safety regulations.

Following the viral circulation of the footage on social media, officials from the Thirurangadi Joint Regional Transport Office (RTO) launched an investigation. The driver, identified as Abhishek Mon, has since had his driving licence suspended. A case has also been registered against him.

The Motor Vehicles Department shared details of the enforcement action via its official social media platforms, including video evidence of the traffic violation. The department has reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict oversight on the newly opened stretch to ensure public safety.

Authorities have urged all road users to adhere to traffic rules and warned that stringent action will continue to be taken against violators, especially on the high-speed corridor.
