Kannur: The Kerala Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has added 226 more numbers to the fancy category. The decision has been taken to increase the price of fancy numbers. It is learnt that the price hike will be effective from January.

With the inclusion of more numbers, the total number of fancy numbers stands at 351. The rate of most fancy numbers is in the range of Rs 3000 to Rs 1 lakh. For instance, number 0001 will cost Rs 1 lakh. Number 0777 will cost Rs 50,000; number 0003: Rs 10,000 and so on.

The existing list had 125 numbers. Similarly, in that list, 16 numbers had Rs 25,000 each. Now, 22 numbers are priced at Rs 25,000.

It may be noted that the rates may further increase if there is high demand for the same number. In such cases auction will be held.

The new addition of numbers to the fancy category may give revenue of at least Rs 37.33 crore.
