Kerala model of education highly acclaimed, focus on inclusivity, says Minister Sivankutty

Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister V. Sivankutty has outrightly dismissed the ‘controversial’ remark made by the Director of General Education (DGE) that the evaluation system of the state’s SSLC examination is too lenient.
Minister Sivankutty stated that DGE's remark during a meeting does not reflect the state's stand on the matter.
“It is not government policy to automatically improve quality (of education) by failing students. The government policy is to improve the quality of education by incorporating all children,” the minister said. He also added that the government have no intention to make any changes in their policy.
Kerala's educational model is highly acclaimed, which explains why the state ranks first in national quality ratings. The General Education Department is aiming to strengthen this model even further, he stated.
Recently, an audio note of DGE S. Shavanas critically questioning the practice of awarding marks leniently in SSLC exams has been circulating on social media. In the audio clip, he claims that this practice is lowering the quality of secondary education in the state and that most students who receive A+ grades wouldn't be able to string together a coherent sentence.
