N. Ramachandran killed in Pahalgam terror attack

Srinagar: A man from Kerala’s Ernakulam district has been confirmed among those killed in the terror attack that shook the tourist town of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as N Ramachandran, a native of Edapally, according to media reports and documents accessed by IANS. Further details about Ramachandran’s visit and companions are still awaited.

Ramachandran travelled to Kashmir with his family on Monday, reportedly after his daughter arrived from abroad. The group included his wife, Sheela Ramachandran, daughter Ammu, and other relatives. Ramachandran also had a son, who works in Hyderabad. Upon learning of the attack, his son has headed to Kashmir.

Ramachandran had returned to Kerala two years ago after working in Dubai. His daughter and other family members, who had been on holiday in Dubai, had come together for a reunion, with the Kashmir trip being part of their holiday celebrations.

The massive attack took place in Baisaran, a popular meadow dubbed “mini Switzerland” for its scenic landscape. Armed terrorists stormed the area around 3 pm and opened fire on unsuspecting tourists who were picnicking, taking pony rides, or eating at local stalls. The gunfire sent shockwaves through the normally peaceful region.

Preliminary reports suggest that over 20 people were killed, with at least 20 more injured. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been tasked with investigating the incident, while official figures on the death toll are yet to be released.

Among the deceased are tourists from states including Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, as well as foreign nationals from Israel and Italy.
