Kottayam: Kerala’s state lottery system could soon become more rewarding for regular players, with the government planning to increase the number of ₹5,000 prize winners and print more lottery tickets across weekly draws. The proposed changes are aimed at making lotteries more attractive while boosting participation and revenue.

At present, 19 draws are conducted for the ₹5,000 prize category in each lottery. Under the proposed revision, that number is expected to rise to 21. If implemented, the total number of winners receiving ₹5,000 would increase from 20,520 to 22,680 across various series.

The government is considering a revision of the existing prize structure, with a special focus on increasing the number of ₹5,000 prizes, one of the rewards considered beneficial by lottery buyers.

Alongside the prize restructuring, the government is also examining a proposal to increase the number of lottery tickets printed for non-bumper draws. Currently, around 1.08 crore tickets are printed for these lotteries. The volume may be increased to approximately 1.17 crore tickets.

The move follows the state government's earlier announcement in the Assembly that the Kerala Lottery prize structure would be reviewed and updated.

Meanwhile, discussions are also under way regarding the reconstitution of the Kerala Lottery Welfare Fund Board following the change in government. The board previously functioned with seven members, including a chairman.

It is likely that Philip Joseph, state president of the All Kerala Lottery Agents and Sellers Congress (INTUC), will be considered for the post of chairman when the board is reconstituted.
