Thiruvananthapuram: It has been announced that guest lecturers will now receive their salaries on a monthly basis. This decision was reached during a meeting convened by Higher Education Minister R Bindu with senior officials, aimed at ensuring timely payment for those working in government-aided colleges.

Draft guidelines have been prepared in this regard and the Directorate of Collegiate Education is set to release detailed guidelines shortly. Earlier, Mathrubhumi had raised concerns regarding delayed salary payments for guest lecturers.

In response, the meeting proposed that certificate verification for teachers should no longer be conducted annually; instead, candidates will now be required to complete a one-time online registration. This process will provide special registration once the Directorate of Collegiate Education or the District Deputy (DD) office verifies and approves their credentials, allowing them to work in any college.

According to the new order, the DD office will just verify if the appointment has been done according to rules. Following the appointment of a guest lecturer, principals are required to submit the necessary directives to the sub-directorate of college education within one month. Salary payments will be based upon the approval of these directives.

Additional pay:

Guest lecturers who engage in field visits, examinations, evaluations and other academic activities will also receive remunerations for their contributions. They will be paid for participating in programmes such as seminars and conferences, designated as 'on duty' work.

In light of these changes, an Adalat (public grievance redressal meeting) is scheduled for October to address salary distribution issues.
