Kerala govt unlikely to challenge HC order on KEAM rank list in SC immediately

New Delhi: The Kerala Government may not immediately appeal to the Supreme Court against the High Court's directive to revise the KEAM engineering entrance rank list. However, senior advocate Jaideep Gupta is scheduled to represent the state in court today (Wednesday). He will apprise the court of the loss to Kerala syllabus students should the High Court's verdict be implemented.
The Supreme Court had, on Tuesday, asked Kerala to clarify whether it intended to file an appeal against the High Court's judgment. The state government reportedly believes that even if an appeal is lodged, court intervention in this year's admissions is unlikely. This assessment has contributed to the state's decision against an immediate appeal.
Kerala will, however, inform the Supreme Court of the loss to Kerala syllabus students resulting from the High Court's decision. Government sources indicated that if the court primarily accepts this argument, the state will take further action.
The deadline for completing engineering admission procedures is August 14. A prolonged hearing in the case could jeopardise the admission process. This consideration also factored into the state government's stance against an immediate appeal. The petition is being heard by a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices P.S. Narasimha and AS Chandurkar.
