Thiruvananthapuram: While KSRTC struggles to make ends meet, the state government has sanctioned Rs 75 crores to buy 156 new Swift buses.

K-Swift will procure 131 Superfast buses and 25 luxury buses and the luxury buses will be used to conduct night services.

Presently, around 500 private buses are conducting illegal services connecting various cities in the state. By introducing a luxurious fleet of modern buses, K-Swift aims to attract more passengers and gradually end the monopoly of private buses.

A high-level committee has been formed to procure AC Sleeper and Multi-axle buses as part of the plan. The latest procurement will be the continuation of a contract issued by K-Swift to procure 131 Diesel buses.

Furthermore, 50 E-buses will hit the roads during the Onam weekend in Thiruvananthapuram.
