Kerala Govt shields ADGP MR Ajith Kumar, refuses to release Vigilance report; gives bizarre reply to RTI plea

Thiruvananthapuram: The government has declined to release the Vigilance report on ADGP M R Ajith Kumar, citing concerns that doing so would unnecessarily infringe upon his privacy. This unusual argument was presented by the state in response to a Right to Information (RTI) request, as reported by Mathrubhumi News.

The RTI application had sought access to the Vigilance inquiry report involving M R Ajith Kumar. In its reply, the government stated that the contents of the report are of a personal nature and that making it public would affect Ajith Kumar’s privacy. The report, the response said, is neither of public interest nor part of any public function, and therefore, cannot be disclosed.

Ajith Kumar had earlier received a clean chit from the Vigilance in a case related to the alleged accumulation of disproportionate assets. However, the Vigilance Court had rejected the clean chit. The court, while  considering a petition filed by advocate Neyyattinkara Nagaraju, reviewed the report submitted by the government and found it incomplete. Consequently, the court dismissed the clean chit report and also decided to record the complainant’s statement.
