Kerala set to announce revised electricity tariff by Dec 5

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission is preparing to announce the revised electricity tariffs for the financial year 2024-25 by the end of this week.
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has proposed an average hike of 4.45% per unit in the current electricity rates.
The delay in the tariff revision was attributed to concerns over potential political repercussions if announced during the recently concluded by-elections.
The Regulatory Commission Chairman is expected to return to Thiruvananthapuram on December 4, and the revised rates are likely to be declared after consultations with the state government on December 5.
Additionally, the commission has suggested introducing a 'summer tariff' surcharge of 10 paise per unit from January to May to address the high electricity demand during the summer. However, Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty has stated that the government does not support the summer tariff proposal.
