Kerala proposes Local Self-Government Reforms Commission

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has proposed a Local Self-Government Reforms Commission to modernise governance and improve service delivery. The commission’s mandate includes revising laws, regulations, and guidelines to enhance ease of doing business and ensure environmental protection. It will operate for one year, focusing on nine key areas such as digitalization, citizen-friendly services, and adopting international best practices.
Dr B Ashok will be appointed as the commission head. The commission will recommend updates to outdated laws, promote online access to services, and suggest frameworks for data-driven decision-making. Personnel will be redeployed to minimize additional costs, with funding provided by the Finance Department and the vehicle and driver should be provided by the tourism department.
The commission’s tasks include revising regulations for mobile apps, digital platforms, and e-offices, while ensuring sustainability and resource efficiency. The government aims to align local governance with modern standards and improve accessibility for citizens.
The commission will also focus on:
