Ginu Zacharia Oommen appointed chairman of Kerala State Food Commission

Thiruvananthapuram: Ginu Zacharia Oommen has been appointed as the chairman of the Kerala State Food Commission. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday, as stated in a release from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). The Kerala government made the announcement on October 3.
Oommen, a nominee of the Communist Party of India (CPI), will lead the commission tasked with monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the state. The NFSA includes four key schemes: the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), the Mid-Day Meal Scheme (MDMS), and maternity benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY).
Oommen previously served as a member of the Kerala Public Service Commission. He was also the general secretary of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) from 2001 to 2002 and the national president of the All India Students Federation (AISF), the CPI's student wing. Oommen also had held the position of National Vice President of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF), the youth wing of CPI, and was an invitee to the National Council of the Left party. (Agencies)
