Alappuzha: Destination weddings that are held in hotels and resorts in tourist centres are becoming a trend in Kerala as well. The song released by Indo-American singer Vidya Vox is turning into an inspiration for this.

Vidya’s song ‘Shubhamangalyam’, with lyrics in Malayalam, English and Hindi languages has gone viral on the internet. Over 23 lakh people have watched it. The picturisation of the song makes it evident that Kerala is a great place to hold a destination wedding.

Minister for tourism, Mohammed Riyas also mentioned Vidya’s song while talking about destination weddings in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. The state’s tourism department collaborated for the filming of this song. The shooting was held in Vembanad lake, Marari beach and Vagamon. Vidya’s song depicts a non-Malayalee bride and groom celebrating their wedding in Kerala.

Hotels and resorts in Kerala are providing facilities for such weddings. The department of tourism has developed Kovalam Samudra, Kumarakom Waterscapes and Kochi Bolgatty palace as destination wedding centres. 289 weddings have been held in Bolgatty palace, 20 in Kumarakom and 4 in Kovalam within one year. The number is ten times more in private hotels and resorts. Facilities have also been prepared in the ‘Muthuchippi’ park in Shankumugham and a contract of Rs 1.25 lakh has been given.
