Kochi: Kerala Space Park (K-Space) is preparing to raise ₹30,000 crore to transform the state into a hub for the aerospace industry.

Established to promote the state’s aerospace, defence, and aviation sectors, K-Space currently has 69 affiliated companies, with unofficial estimates suggesting that even more may be associated.

These companies have collectively invested around ₹1,400 crore so far. K-Space is now preparing to create a conducive infrastructure to attract further investment.

The Space Park being constructed at Pallippuram in Thiruvananthapuram, along with its ancillary projects, forms part of this infrastructure. The Pallippuram campus, designed to develop a range of innovative products and services in the aerospace sector, is expected to be operational by 2028, according to K-Space CEO G. Levin.

Several key projects are also moving toward the land acquisition phase. The Integrated Defence Industrial Park (IDIP) in Kattakkada, the Liquid Propulsion Complex in Valiyamala, and the Aerospace Control System facility in Veli, all in Thiruvananthapuram. K-Space is also seeking land for an Aerospace Industrial Cluster in Ernakulam district. The completion of these projects is expected to attract strong investment into the state’s aerospace sector.

The state’s own aerospace policy, which will support these projects, is expected to receive government approval soon, Levin added.

BrahMos unit a boost

The upcoming BrahMos unit in Thiruvananthapuram is also expected to be a significant advantage for K-Space. The designated BrahMos facility is located close to the K-Space Integrated Defence Industrial Park project area. Securing subcontracts from the massive BrahMos projects would be a major benefit for K-Space, Levin said.
