Kerala Excise initiates probe after Malayali arrested in major drug haul in Mumbai

Kochi: The excise department officials searched the Kochi godown of the Malayali businessman who was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for drug trafficking.

Excise also raided trade centres under his ownership. DRI revealed that the individual smuggled under drugs the pretext of fruit imports. Excise officials are specifically examining fruit storage boxes.

DRI, on Sunday, had arrested Kalady native Vigin Verghese, managing director of Yummitto International Foods Private Limited, in connection with Rs 1,476 worth drug seizure at Mumbai port.

The officials also searched a container that arrived at Kochi port addressed to his company the other day.
