Shortage of Plus One seats: 120 additional batches allotted for Malappuram, 18 for Kasaragod

Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister V Sivankutty announced here on Thursday that 120 additional batches will be allotted in Malappuram and 18 batches in Kasaragod. The Minister also clarified that only government schools have been considered for allocating new temporary batches.

New batches have been allotted for Humanities and Commerce in Malappuram district. A total of 59 batches are allotted for Humanities and 61 batches for Commerce. One Science batch, four Humanities batches and 13 Commerce batches have been sanctioned in Kasaragod district. 

The Minister also stated that a financial burden of Rs 14.90 crore is expected for allocating 138 temporary batches in both the districts.

After completion of the main phase allotments of the first year admissions, it was found that there is a shortage of Plus One seats in Malappuram and Kasaragod districts in the state. Also, a report has been submitted by Academic Joint Director of Higher Secondary Department and Malappuram Regional Deputy Director regarding allocation of temporary additional batches after checking the number of required seats in Malappuram district. A report for Kasaragod district was submitted by the Deputy Commissioner of Education, Kannur.

The Minister added that the Director of Public Education also had reported that based on the evaluation of the applications received and the available seats for the first supplementary allotment, it is advisable to urgently allocate temporary additional batches in various taluks of Malappuram and Kasaragod districts.
