5,692 fresh Covid cases reported in Kerala on Monday; test positivity rate rises to 12.53 pc

Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 5,692 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Kerala on Monday. The test positivity rate was recorded at 12.53 percent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Kozhikode – 1010, Ernakulam – 779, Malappuram – 612, Kannur – 536, Thiruvananthapuram – 505, Kottayam – 407, Alappuzha – 340, Thrissur – 320, Kollam – 282, Kasaragod – 220, Palakkad – 206, Idukki – 194, Pathanamthitta – 148 and Wayanad - 133.

One of the UK returnees tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 104 people returned from UK, 7 from South Africa and 1 from Brazil tested positive for the virus infection. 107 of them have recovered. So far, 11 patients have been identified with the mutant virus strain.

45,417 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 1,38,14,258 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.

11 deaths were confirmed due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths in the state has touched 4,794. Test results from Alappuzha NIV are awaited to confirm other suspected Covid deaths.

188 of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state. 5,088 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 393 persons remains unidentified.

23 health workers also tested positive for Covid on Monday. Among them, 6 were from Kannur, 4 from Kozhikode, 3 each from Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur, 2 each from Kollam, Palakkad and Kasaragod and 1 from Wayanad.

2,474 recoveries were also reported in the state. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram – 144, Kollam – 167, Pathanamthitta – 68, Alappuzha – 196, Kottayam – 337, Idukki – 46, Ernakulam – 137, Thrissur – 207, Palakkad – 130, Malappuram – 253, Kozhikode – 425, Wayanad – 17, Kannur – 303 and Kasaragod – 44.

There are 47,596 active Covid-19 cases in the state. 11,20,174 people have recovered from the disease. 1,75,856 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,68,827 are under home/institutional quarantine and 7,029 people are in hospitals. 1,270 people were taken to hospitals on Monday.

12 new hotspots were identified on Monday while no place was removed from the list. Currently, there are 403 hotspots in the state.
