Kerala CM’s mega quiz to launch on Jan 12; ₹5 lakh grand prize at stake

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is set to launch the "Vijnana Yathra – Chief Minister’s Mega Quiz," a massive statewide knowledge initiative starting January 12. A first-of-its-kind initiative by a state government, the competition centres on Kerala’s vibrant history of social progress, the renaissance movement, and its modern developmental achievements.
Organised by the Information Public Relations Department (IPRD) in collaboration with the General Education and Higher Education Departments, the quiz aims to instil social awareness and historical knowledge in the younger generation.
Cash rewards
The competition offers substantial prize money for winners in two distinct categories. In the School Category (Classes 8 to 12), the first-prize winner will receive ₹5,00,000, while the second and third-place winners will receive ₹3,00,000 and ₹2,00,000, respectively.
In the College and University Category, the first prize is set at ₹3,00,000, followed by ₹2,00,000 for second place and ₹1,00,000 for third place.
In addition to the cash awards, all winners will be honoured with mementoes and certificates of merit.
The quiz will follow a multi-tier structure to ensure participation from every corner of the state.
School Category: Competitions will progress through the School, Educational District, Revenue District, and State levels. While the initial school-level rounds are individual, subsequent rounds starting from the Educational District level will be team-based.
College Category: Rounds will be held at the College, District, and State levels. Similar to the school category, these will transition from individual participation to team-based rounds, leading to the Grand Finale.
A celebration of knowledge
To encourage mass participation, every student who takes part will receive an online participation certificate. District-level winners will be honoured with mementoes and certificates.
The event is designed to be interactive; starting from the district level, the quiz will involve the audience, offering prizes for correct answers from spectators.
With an expected turnout of five lakh students, the Chief Minister’s Mega Quiz is poised to become a landmark festival of learning, uniting the state through the power of knowledge.
