CMRL case: Kerala CM, Veena Vijayan granted more time to file counter-affidavit

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has extended the time for Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter Veena Vijayan to submit a counter-affidavit in the ongoing CMRL case. The extension was granted during proceedings related to a petition demanding a CBI probe into the matter.
The court observed that all opposing parties must be given an opportunity to be heard before any further action is taken.
Initially, the petition was heard by a vacation bench of the court. Back then, the central government was directed to present details, in a sealed cover, concerning all political figures named in the Income Tax Interim Settlement Board's report in connection with financial transactions.
When the matter came up before the Chief Justice on Tuesday, the Centre informed the court that documents related to the financial transactions in the CMRL case were with the Income Tax department.
The Income Tax department clarified in court that it had not received any instruction to submit the documents in a sealed cover. The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 17.
