Kerala CM AI-image row: Congress leader N Subrahmanian taken into police custody

Kozhikode: N Subrahmanian, a member of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Political Affairs Committee, has been taken into police custody for sharing an AI-generated image showing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan alongside Unnikrishnan Potti, the first accused in the Sabarimala gold smuggling case.  

The Chevayur police who registered a case against him initiated action after he failed to appear for a prior summons.

Subrahmanian defends post, refuses to withdraw

Subrahmanian insisted the image he shared is authentic. “I will not withdraw the post and will face it legally,” he said.

He further claimed that the action against him was politically motivated. “The picture I shared was taken from a video released by the Chief Minister’s office,” Subrahmanian clarified, asserting the image’s legitimacy.

Political tension over AI-generated content

The image, which questioned the relationship between Pinarayi Vijayan and Unnikrishnan Potti, drew strong criticism from CPM leaders, who highlighted that it was AI-generated.

Amid this row, police registered a case of provocation with intent to cause a riot against the senior Congress leader.
