Kanam’s body kept for public homage at his residence; last rites by 11 am

Thiruvananthapuram: Entire Kerala is ready to bid a final farewell to veteran communist leader Kanam Rajendran. The mortal remains of the political stalwart will be cremated with official honours at 11 AM today on his house premises at Kanam. The cortege arrived at Rajendran’s residence at Kanam in Kottayam around 3 AM today. By 7:30 AM, the body was kept for homage on the courtyard.
Meanwhile, in his final homebound journey, thousands of followers had gathered on the roadsides to pay final respects to Kanam Rajendran. Due to the unprecedented crowd, the procession was delayed by hours. The cortege finally arrived at the Kottayam CPI district committee office around 1 AM on Sunday.
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, other ministers, MLAs and CPI national secretary D Raja will arrive in Kanam this morning.
In view of Kanam’s untimely demise, the CPM politburo meeting was wrapped up on Saturday. Meanwhile, Kottayam CPI district secretary Advocate VB Binu has informed that a condolence meeting will be held at Mammen Mappilla memorial hall on Monday.
