Controversy erupts after bank union offers tribute to Pervez Musharraf

Alappuzha: The name of former President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf was included in the list of persons to be honoured at the State Conference of the Bank of India Staff Union (Kerala). When the incident sparked controversy, the organizers removed this part with ink. The minutes of the Union's session included the names of many notable deceased persons, alongside Musharraf. This organization is affiliated with the All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA).
The conference took place in the auditorium of Alappuzha city on Saturday. Attendees received a program schedule that had been manually corrected with ink. Upon finding the incident, BJP workers staged a protest at the venue.
Police halted the protesters at the gate. The controversy escalated because Musharraf's name was mentioned during the commemoration of the Kargil conflict in the country. This was highlighted during the BJP protest. BJP Alappuzha District Committee President MV Gopakumar inaugurated the march.
Officials attribute issue to technical error
The issue was caused by a technical error during printing. The circulated copy was a draft, and the mistake was noticed at that stage. The errors were corrected in the copies distributed to the members. A total of 20 members of the organization participated in the Kargil War. Officials stated that the conference concluded by commemorating those who participated in the Kargil War.
